Monmouth Beach, NJ — After 37 years of serving Monmouth and Ocean County seniors from its longtime home in the lower level of Monmouth Mall, the Senior Citizens Activities Network (SCAN) is preparing for a new chapter.
Earlier this year, SCAN, a nonprofit organization serving seniors was notified by Kushner & Co., the developers of the new Monmouth Square project, that it must vacate its current space by the end of 2025. Following an extensive search for a new home, SCAN is proud to announce it will relocate to the Church of the Precious Blood Parish Center in Monmouth Beach. The Center is located at 72 Riverdale Avenue, Monmouth Beach.
“We’re thrilled to bring our vibrant community of older adults and enriching programs to Monmouth Beach,” said Mike Ciavolino, Executive Director of SCAN. “This move not only gives us a beautiful new home—it opens the doors for even more residents to discover what SCAN has to offer.”
Starting in September 2025, SCAN, a 501©3 non-profit, will host its free and low-cost classes, workshops, and events at the Parish Center, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone age 55 or older can join SCAN, and annual membership is just $25. As a special welcome, all Monmouth Beach residents aged 55 and over will receive a free first-year membership with valid ID. (Cost for the classes are a separate fee, Information can be found on the SCAN website.)
Each semester, SCAN offers more than 40 diverse programs including:
Additionally, SCAN presents 13 Lunch & Learn events per year featuring expert speakers, complimentary lunch, and networking. The organization also hosts two Brain Health Fairs annually and the beloved Senior Expo & Fashion Show, where local seniors strut the runway in outfits provided by Macy’s. SCAN also supports the most at-risk seniors in the community through their Benefits Enrollment Center (BEC). The Benefit Enrollment Center (BEC) connects Medicare beneficiaries and disabled adults of limited income to the benefits they may be entitled to receive. These benefits can represent a savings of hundreds of dollars each month.
Jim Cantelmo, Parish Administrator at the Church of the Precious Blood, shared his enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are delighted to welcome SCAN to the Parish Center. Their mission aligns beautifully with our values of community, compassion, and service. We look forward to having their members bring even more life, joy, and connection to Monmouth Beach.”
In addition to its new home in Monmouth Beach, SCAN will maintain a presence at Monmouth Square, offering select classes in the third-floor Community Room at Boscov’s. This satellite location will help ensure continued accessibility for SCAN members in the Eatontown area and surrounding communities.
SCAN’s expanded footprint allows it to reach even more older adults while continuing its mission of keeping seniors connected, active, and engaged—combatting the epidemic of isolation facing older adults today.
