SCAN FAQ’s and General Information

SCAN is on the Basement Level of Monmouth Mall across from the Mall Management office.

There is an elevator once you enter Mall Entrance 3 which takes you to the Basement Level. There are accessible rest rooms on this level as well. All SCAN classrooms are also accessible.

If you are age 55 or more, you are eligible to become a SCAN member and may take courses at reduced member rates. The general public, regardless of age or residency, may take courses at SCAN at non-membership rates. To become a member, submit a completed membership application form. Membership forms may be picked up at the SCAN office or printed from the SCAN website. Membership is renewable on your anniversary date.

Registration is required to participate in all SCAN classes, clubs, and seminars. Payment can be made with Visa, Mastercard, cash, or checks. Registrations will not be processed unless the payment is included. It is recommended you register at least one week in advance in order to ensure your spot in a class, since all classes are filled on a first-come first-served basis. All classes require a minimum number of participants to run. If the minimum is not met before the first day of class, SCAN reserves the right to cancel the class and refund fees. You will be notified by phone if a class is cancelled. To register for a class or event, mail or drop off at SCAN a completed registration form including the payment. If you register after the first day of class, the fee may be prorated on certain classes. If a class is cancelled or changed, you will be notified by phone or email.

Students who withdraw from a class or transfer between different classes must submit a completed REFUND/TRANSFER form no later than the start of the first class of the semester. Approved withdrawal requests will receive a prorated refund in the form of a Credit Voucher for tuition only. No refunds are issued for missed classes. Credit vouchers must be used within six months of issue date. They are non-transferable. Membership fees, and costs for other class materials or books are non-refundable. Please allow 2-3 weeks for processing.

SCAN reserves the right to make location and/or instructor changes as operational conditions change.

SCAN reserves the right to cancel any class/club/seminar/event if the enrollment minimum is not met. If SCAN cancels a class, fees will automatically be refunded in the form of a check. Membership fees are not refundable. Please allow 2-3 weeks for processing all refunds.

In the event a class/club/seminar session is unexpectedly cancelled, SCAN will make every attempt to notify registered students by phone. Occasionally, classes need to be cancelled and there may be insufficient time to notify students.

Tuition aid may be available to SCAN members showing proof of economic need such as Unemployment, Medicaid, or PAAD. Tuition aid is applicable for all classes but does not apply to the Membership Fee or Renewal. Speak to the Program Coordinator or the Program Director for more information.

Closing and delayed opening information, due to inclement weather or other circumstances, will be available on SCAN’s telephone message recording by 7:30AM. Call SCAN at (732) 542-1326. A delayed opening means that SCAN officially opens at 11:00AM and any classes beginning before 11:00AM are automatically cancelled for that day. SCAN follows the Eatontown school district in making decisions about closing and delayed openings. If an emergency occurs during working hours and the staff needs to leave the office, a message will be recorded on the office phone.

We make every effort to make up missed classes during the 3 weeks between semesters. SCAN reserves the right to make the final decision on make-up classes, acknowledging there may be situations when this is not possible due to instructor availability or operational necessities.
